Our Story

Our Story

Children's Response Center was formed as a response to an increased demand in specific services for children who are experiencing the effects of sexual abuse, physical abuse and other traumatic events. Our commitment to provide quality family centered care has continued since our inception and will continue through all stages of recovery for the children we serve.


We have worked collaboratively with hospitals, schools, child protective service departments, police departments and local non-profit organizations over the years so that when children do experience a traumatic event they can be provided with comprehensive and well-coordinated support to meet their unique needs.

Our Mission

The mission of our organization is to be able to offer compassionate, trauma informed counseling; advocacy for; education on; and supportive services that assist children, youth and their families in healing from abuse, sexual assault, and other forms of traumatic experiences while enhancing the overall sense of safety, resiliency and hope for these individuals.


Our Vision

We dream about a future time when all children are raised within safe and loving homes and communities with no history of abuse or sexual violence and/or trauma. The goal of creating an environment for children to heal; for families to become stronger; and for communities to unite in order to protect each individual child.

What We Do

Children's Response Center (CRC) specializes in providing a variety of treatment services to children and adolescents 17 years or younger and those who care for them.


The services we provide include:


  • Counseling that focuses on trauma
  • Family and child counseling
  • Support for the non-offending caregiver
  • Treatment for children demonstrating sexualized behavior problems
  • Advocacy for victims
  • Education to community members about CRC
  • Consultation to professionals regarding issues related to child abuse and neglect
  • Helping to make referrals and collaborating with other providers
 

Our Approach

Healing begins with trust.

Our Team uses Evidence-Based Trauma-Informed Care to help each Child recognize their own Experiences, Strengths & Needs. Our team works with Families on developing Individual Support Plans and collaborate with Community Partners to provide Children with Safe and Respectful Comprehensive Services.

Professional Excellence

The Children's Response Center is proud of its history of maintaining the highest levels of professionalism in all that we do.


  • Children's Response Center has received accreditation from the state of Washington, Department of Corrections' Office of Crime Victim Advocacy as a community sexual assault program (CSAP).
  • We are certified by Harborview Medical Center outpatient mental health services as an independent mental health provider agency.
  • All staff at the Children's Response Center have their license(s) to practice independently as licensed clinical social workers (LISWs) or other types of therapists such as LMFT, LP, MD etc., in the state of Washington.


The above credentials demonstrate Children's Response Center's ongoing commitment to providing professional, ethical and quality service to children and families.

Community Recognition

We have earned recognition across Washington State from communities that are concerned with the welfare of all children and their families.

Among the most notable is:

  • The Governor's Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service (1991)

  • American Association for Protecting Children named us as an example of excellence in a Community Partnership (1989).


Both of these awards acknowledge our long-standing commitment to work together, advocate for children, and provide services to the community.
